Cervantes exlibris
Gian
Carlo Torre Cervantes Exlibris Collection
This project, undertaken by the Cervantes Chair of the University
of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), is been the result of a joint collaboration
between the Cervantes Project of the
University of Texas A&M and The Castilla-La
Mancha Study Center of UCLM.
The project began with the kind donation to the Cervantes Chair of the collection of original Cervantes exlibris by Doctor Gian Carlo Torre.
His collection is one of the most important in the world and the donation has enabled work to begin, producing a digital archive and subsequent publishing of the complete work on the Internet, where it can be read and appreciated by people throughout the world.
Together with the digital archive, we intend to exhibit the collection in Spain during the year 2005, which marks the Fourth Centenary of the first edition of Don Quijote. The details and programme of the proposed exhibitions will be published and advertised in advance.
For the digital archive, more that 1300 scaned exlibris, together with an exhaustive database will be produced. The final aim of this work will be to produce a working tool for all those interested, together with bibliographic studies related to the exlibris of the works of Cervantes.
All this information will be available on the web pages of The Castilla-La Mancha Study Center and the Cervantes Chair.
The
technical work of digitation, cataloging and design will be undertaking
by the Technical Staff of Castilla-La Mancha Study Center in Ciudad Real,
Spain in conjunction with our colleagues at the Cervantes Project of the
University of Texas A&M, College Station, Texas.
