Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Savery: Dordrecht, 1657); when don Quixote tries to enter Montesinos' cave cutting away some brambles with his sword, a multitude of crows and choughs (they look more like owls in Johannot's vignette) flows out of the cave and knocks don Quixote down.
Don Quixote's figure, falling down, has been well represented; Sancho and the licenciate's cousin appear just sketched in the right background. |
