Commentary Johannot chooses details from Cervantes' text never before represented; according to don Quixote's opinion, one of the best knights was the Knight of the Burning Sword, who with one back-stroke had cut in half two fierce and monstrous giants.
Scene in keeping with Romanticism interest for fantasy and imagination.
Remarkable engraving.
Notes 1 - Same illustration and wooden block first used for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
