Commentary Two goatherds find Cardenio lodged in the hollow of a large thick cork tree.
Notes 1 - Same illustration and wooden block first used for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
2 - In Madrid: Sancha, 1798 - 1799, it appears a very similar illustration by Alcántara and Tejada, but for the chapter in which Cardenio tells his story to the priest and the barber; "mi más común habitación es en el hueco de un alcornoque, capaz de cubrir este miserable cuerpo" (27:1).
