Commentary | Well-known scene since Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1724), whose composition was more or less copied in later editions.
Johannot creates a new and masterly illustration; great composition with the Duchess (on a white horse and with a goshawk) as main character; she appears surrounded by the Duke and several servants on foot or horseback while Sancho kneels down before her to introduce don Quixote (not represented here; traditionally, he appears in the background). Drawing and engraving are of great quality. |
