Commentary Well-known scene since Savery (Savery: Dordrecht, 1657); when don Quixote tries to enter Montesinos' cave cutting away some brambles with his sword, a multitude of crows and choughs (they look more like owls in this illus.) flows out of the cave and knocks don Quixote down.
Notes 1 - Reprint of the original lithograph (Mexico: Masse y Decaen; I. Cumplido, 1842) after Johannot's design (Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37).
