Commentary | This episode was one of the earliest in being illustrated (Frankfurt: T. Matthiae Götzen, 1648), appearing with crude humorous realism.
Johannot/Heredia preferred a more fine representation; Sancho appears hidden behind his donkey, so we do not see what he is doing, but we do see don Quixote smelling it. |
