Drawing and engraving are excellent and highly detailed. |
Notes | 1 - Placed in chapter 40:1.
2 - Reproduced after Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37; in this edition, the illustration refers to don Juan de Austria. 3 - The print seems to have two signatures, but they are unreadable. 4 - This portrait is a partial and turned copy after Ribera's portrait of don Juan José de Austria (1648, Royal Palace, Madrid, Spain); Johannot mistakes don Juan José de Austria (1629 - 1679), son of King Felipe IV, with don Juan de Austria (1545 - 1578), brother of King Felipe II. |
