Commentary Don Quixote and Sancho mounted on Clavileño while several servants simulate its flight with pairs of bellows and torches; one of them has lighted its fuse.
The Duke and Duchess observe the scene.
The composition is well-known since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), but now it has been enriched.
Good drawing and engraving.
Notes 1 - Same plate first used for Paris: Compagnie des Libraires, 1732.
2 - Turned copy with a new vertical format after Coypel’s illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1728-30); the setting has been simplified and some servants have not been copied.
