Commentary Countess Trifaldi shows her beard to don Quixote, amazing him and Sancho.
The composition is created with gestures and looks: the Duchess orders two maidens to be quiet; the Duke laughs; Sancho's surprised; don Quixote's astonished.
Trifaldín's figure is very remarkable, although he should hold a scimitar, not a mace.
Well-detailed drawing engraving; good expressions.
Notes 1 – Turned copy in a new vertical format after Coypel’s illustration (Paris: Surugue, 1724); the trees have been enlarged; bad composition for a vertical format.
