Commentary | Well-known scene; Sancho, before leaving for El Toboso, observes don Quixote half-naked doing his penance (some somersaults). Doré has represented don Quixote with comical realism (showing his bottom).
The setting is especially remarkable; Doré traveled to Sierra Morena and elaborated several sketches about it, using them for these illustrations. Drawing and engraving are excellent. |
