Commentary | Reference to the dialogue between the priest and the innkeeper about chivalric books; Felixmarte of Hircania, with one single backstroke, cleft five giants asunder through the middle.
This kind of imaginative images are quite in keeping with Romanticism and Doré's taste; also including some bloody elements (the cleft giants loose their intestines while running away). Excellent drawing and engraving. |
