| Commentary | Reference to the tale of El Curioso Impertinente; Camila pretends to stab herself before Lotario and Leonela.
According to Cervantes' text, Camila stabs herself with a dagger ("daga"), but in Doré's French edition it is used the word "épée" (sword), so Doré has represented a sword (the scene results more dramatic). The whole illustration is masterly: rich and detailed setting, gestures and expressions, clothes, engraving... |
