Commentary | Reference to the captive's tale; some Arabs cut John Andrea Doria's head off and carry it to the commander of the Turkish fleet.
Excellent setting, drawing and engraving; notice the detailed clothes and the variety of characters. The illustration is quite in keeping with Romanticism and Doré's taste for Orientalism; also for bloody episodes of the history. |
