Commentary | In order to resurrect Altisidora, Sancho is pinched and smacked by several dueñas; also in the scene, Altisidora lying on a catafalque, don Quixote, Minos and Rhadamanthus (as kings), and the Duke and the Duchess.
Accurate to Cervantes' text, Sancho wears a tunic with painted flames and a capirote. Scene resolved with Herreros' personal, characteristic and parodic drawing style. |
Notes | 1 - The illustration is quite a parody of that designed by John Vanderbank for London: Tonson, 1738.
2 - Signed and dated in 1950. |
