Commentary Well-detailed representation of a 18th century bourgeois French house (paintings, furniture, sculptures, carpets...).
Characters are divided in three groups; on the right, the main one. Surrounding the enchanted head (as a Roman bust), don Quixote thoughtful, Sancho astonished, don Antonio and two friends.
On the left, in the foreground and in the background, two more groups that balance the composition.
Excellent drawing and engraving; fine and highly detailed burin lines. Preisler's plates are the best in this set.
Some details (portrait with a dame) have been newly added by Preisler.
Notes 1 - Excellent copy of Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1735) through Jacob van der Schley's copy (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). Both 1746 and 1777 copies with the same vertical format and same turned composition in comparison with Coypel's illustration.
2 - Wrongly-placed f.p. 173; it should be f.p. 273.
3 - In Cushing's copy, tomes III and IV are bound together (volume II).
