Commentary | Don Quixote with the allegory of Folly, as it was described by Cesare Ripa (dressed as a jester with small bells and holding a whirligig) and Love, as Cupid.
Folly and Love show Dulcinea's portrait to don Quixote. Don Quixote appears as Knight of the Lions. A satyr (reference to Don Quixote as a book of satire) sets fire to different chivalry books. Drawing and engraving are deficient. |
Notes | 1 - Copy after Antonio Carnicero's illustration for Madrid: Ibarra, 1780; some details and the inscription that appeared on the background architecture have not been copied. |
