Commentary Don Quixote, holding some acorns and surrounded by goatherds, delivers his speech about the Golden Age.
This is one of Johannot's most remarkable illustrations; see don Quixote's gesture, the variety of the faces of the goatherds (listening to don Quixote with attention), the different use of drawing/engraving (more or less marked according to the position of the figure).
Notes 1 - Reprint of Johannot's illustration for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
2 - This is one of the scarce illustrations signed by the illustrator, Tony Johannot, which may indicate that he was specially proud of it.
