Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657).
Well-resolved composition; don Quixote attacks Maese Pedro's theater before an astonished public. Accurate details (monkey without tail, Maese Pedro's patch...). Some details (lamp) are copied after Coypel (Paris: Surugue, 1724). Good composition, drawing and engraving; good effect of movement, expressions and gestures; figures of excellent engraving and drawing. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first engraved for London: William Miller, 1801.
2 - Copied after Antonio Carnicero and Francisco Muntaner's illustration (Madrid: Ibarra, 1780) with some little changes: Sancho's head and maese Pedro's right arm. |
