Commentary | Although the illustration has been placed in chapter 33:2 (Conversation between Sancho and the Duchess about Dulcinea's enchantment), this plate illustrates a chapter from Avellaneda's Continuation.
The scene could be misunderstood with the "Encounter with the Duchess" (30:2), but it is not from Cervantes' Don Quixote. |
Notes | 1 – Copy after Chodowiecki’s illustration for Weimar/Leipzig: Fritschischen Buchhandlung, 1775 (also in Leipzig: Caspar Fritsch, 1780-81). |
