Commentary | In the center, Sancho, framed by two columns and one large curtain, with the secretary and the majordomo.
At each side, one group of characters (one with the accused man and other with the accusing one). Great and theatrical setting; perfectly-balanced composition. The stolen coins have just been discovered into a walking stick; Sancho looks at the accused man (right) out of the corner of his eye. Good use of dotted manner/stipple. |
Notes | 1 - Copy after Coypel's illustration (La Haye: Hondt, 1746; originally engraved for Paris: Surugue, c. 1731-43); in the original, there was a landscape where now there is wall. |
