Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657); the composition is quite influenced by Carnicero's (Madrid: Ibarra, 1780); on the right, don Quixote prepared to fight the lion, which still remains into the cart (on the left); the lionkeeper appears over the cart and, in the background, Sancho flees away (don Diego and the carter have not been represented).
The lion is disproportionated. Details have not been too much worked. |
