| Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657); the composition is quite influenced by Carnicero's (Madrid: Ibarra, 1780); on the right, don Quixote prepared to fight the lion, which still remains into the cart (on the left); the lionkeeper appears over the cart and, in the background, Sancho flees away (don Diego and the carter have not been represented).
