Commentary | As usual in Clark's illustrations, the scene composition follows a diagonal: from the servants (persecuting Sancho) through Sancho (appealing) to the Duchess and don Quixote.
Setting limited to a curtain in the background (theatrical) and some vases (symbol of richness). Sancho's sad face is remarkable. Don Quixote's gesture, ordering the servant to move away, accurate to Cervantes's text. |
