Commentary | Basic composition: in the foreground, don Quixote in his bed; in the background, behind the bed, doña Rodríguez; her figure is one of the most grotesque ever represented (with disproportionated glasses); her face of old woman has been reinforced by lights and shadows (well-used aquatint; see also the good use of aquatint in bed shading).
Coloring is limited (purple for the dueña, green for the canopy and white for the bed) but well-used. |
