Commentary From the whole episode, it has been chosen a non-violent scene.
Don Quixote orders the penitents to release the lady (a sculpture of the Virgin Mary) that they have taken prisoner.
Sancho tries to stop him.
The group of the penitents with the sculpture is not accurate to Spanish processions, but its composition has been resolved well.
Drawing and engraving are very remarkable.
Notes 1 - Same plate first engraved for London: Tonson, 1749, now partially-erased (as used in 1766 too).
2 - Plate 16.
