Commentary Well-known scene; Johannot has resolved it with naturalism and a simple composition with the basic characters: don Quixote knelt before the innkeeper, who holds a book and a sword, and observed by the two "ladies" (they do not hold either the spurs or the sword) and a boy (with a candle?); there is a light illuminating the scene from the top, but we can not see any light.
Interesting and strong light and shadow contrasts.
Notes 1 - Same illustration and wooden block first used for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
