Commentary Reference to captive's tale; when Agi Morato discovers that his daughter was running away by her own will, he throws himself into the sea, but the captive and the other Christians rescue him; "acudimos luego todos, y, asiéndole de la almalafa, le sacamos medio ahogado y sin sentido" (41:1).
Johannot has reinforced drama in this scene; see Zoraida's theatrical gesture.
First of two consecutive scenes.
Notes 1 - Same illustration and wooden block first used for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
