Commentary Lebarbier has chosen the very instant when don Quixote recovers his reason and becomes Alonso Quijano again.
Center of the composition: don Quixote under a great canopy, emphasized by the light.
In the foreground: Sancho (left) and the priest (right).
In the background: the housekeeper, the niece, the barber, Sansón Carrasco and the notary.
Don Quixote's face is remarkable; good drawing and fine engraving appropriate for the small format of the illustration.
Emotional scene, with some drama (see housekeeper and niece's faces).
Notes 1 - Same plate first engraved for Paris: Didot L'Aîné-Deterville, 1799 (1st ed.), but now (2nd ed.) without frame and re-engraved signature.
