| Commentary | "36. Batalla entre Don Quixote y el lacayo Tosilos. Levantase un tablado delante de la plaza del castillo del Duque, donde se sientan las dueñas demandantes, que son Dª. Rodríguez y su hija, cubiertas con sus mantos: ponense detras de ellas los jueces del campo: presentanse en la estacada Don Quixote y Tosilos con admiracion de Sancho: ajustan las condiciones de la batalla: parteles el sol el maestro de ceremonias. El Duque y la Duquesa con otra gente ven el combate desde una galeria, donde estan tambien los trompeteros y timbaleros, que suenan y tocan al acometer las trompetas y timbales. Illustration of great quality; figures well-drawn, engraved and shaded. Don Quixote's figure is remarkable (good gesture); carefully-done details (doña Rodríguez and her daughter's figures in the left background; Duke, Duchess and musicians' figures in the right background). Rocinante's figure lightly disproportionated, but its movement is well-resolved. |
