Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote fallen on the ground and beaten by a pair of yangüeses.
Behind, Sancho is beaten by other yangüés. In the background, the mares. Don Quixote´s representation is different in comparison with other illustrations in the same edition; classical model; his figure reminds classical sculptures as Dying Gaul or Discobolo-warrior (Capitoline Museum, Rome). Excellent drawing, but very deficient printing (worn plate). |
