Commentary | At the courtyard inn, don Quixote holds the barber basin (Mambrino's helmet) while Sancho and the two barbers argue about the basin and the packsaddle.
Episode previously represented in different moments: fight (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657) or dialogue (London: Tonson, 1738); now, depicted also during the dialogue. On the left, don Fernando and the priest talking and laughing. In the background, several figures. Plate of great quality; good drawing, composition, engraving and details (don Quixote's armour, don Fernando's clothes, inn...). Remarkable realism. |
