Commentary | Don Quixote is ready to descend into Montesinos' cave when a flock of birds and bats surprises him.
Sancho and the bachelor's cousin observe him laughing. Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), whose composition has been copied here. Don Quixote's figure is very good (see his face); Sancho and the cousin are forced. Illustration without originality. |
