Commentary | In the foreground, don Quixote falling on the ground from Rocinante defeated by the Knight of the White Moon (Sansón Carrasco); great figures.
From the background, Sancho runs to help don Quixote; don Antonio and the Viceroy observe them. Set in Barcelona beach (galleys, port...). Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), whose composition has been almost copied here; now, with great realism and detailed. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first used for Madrid: Ibarra, 1780.
2 - Deficient printing; worn plate. |
