Commentary Don Quixote and Sancho cross Sierra Morena along a narrow path surrounded by deep precipices and huge mountains.
Although Sancho's donkey has not been stolen yet, Doré has not represented it.
Doré traveled to Sierra Morena and elaborated several sketches about it, using them for this illustration.
The image, in keeping with Romanticism taste, is quite sublime.
Drawing and engraving (notice the darkness, shadows...) are excellent.
