Commentary | On the left, Rocinante, carrying don Quixote's arms, and Sancho, talking to the knight; in the center, don Quixote in the cage on the oxcart; on the right, two officers of the Holy Brotherhood; in the background, the barber and the priest. The composition is excellent.
Good drawing, agile, quick and spontaneous. Accurate to Cervantes' text: "Iba primero el carro guiándolo su dueño, a los dos lados iban los cuadrilleros, como se ha dicho, con sus escopetas; seguía luego Sancho Panza sobre su asno, llevando de la rienda a Rocinante; detrás de todo esto iban el cura y el barbero sobre sus poderosas mulas" (47:1). |
