Commentary Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657). Marstrand repeats an almost typified composition (see the same by Johannot in Paris: Dubochet, 1836 - 1837); don Quixote attacks the theater while Maese Pedro appears from behind it to stop don Quixote; Sancho and others observe them.
Some details are accurate to Cervantes' text (ape without tail), but others not (Maese Pedro without the parch on his eye).
Notes According to the Index included at the end of the volume, this illustration (Plate VI) is rightly placed.
