Commentary Don Quixote lying on the ground with his lance broken after having been beaten by the groom of some merchants from Toledo; Rocinante in the background.
Vierge's style is absolutely masterly; his figures suggest the humour/irony of Cervantes' text.
Notice also the perfect use of light and shadow, halftones and shading.
Usual in Vierge's illustrations, some element in black creates a worth noting contrast.
His fine and short drawing lines imitates etching.
