Commentary | Don Quixote galloping on Rocinante and attacking a flock of sheep at the very moment of spearing a sheep with his lance.
Well-known scene, but never before represented with such drama and violence. Notice don Quixote's expression (madness? cruelty?). The illustration has been cut and pasted to the front cover in such a way that Rocinante seems to be jumping out of the frame. Ornamental frame in Art Nouveau style. |
Notes | 1 - The title page refers to "Farbendruckbildern" (images printed in colors; chromotypes); Wald's original watercolors have been reproduced using different photography negatives. The result is quite similar to a chromolithograph. |
