Commentary | In the foreground, Sancho and the Knight of the Mirrors' squire (Tomé Cecial) dinning; the squire is disguised with a fake big nose; genre scene in keeping with German liking.
In the background, just as silhouettes, don Quixote and the Knight of the Mirrors (Sansón Carrasco) talking among some trees. Remarkable illustration; good contrast between foreground (well-lighted and detailed) and background (dark shapes lighted by the full moon). |
Notes | 1 - The title page refers to "Farbendruckbildern" (images printed in colors; chromotypes); Wald's original watercolors have been reproduced using different photography negatives. The result is quite similar to a chromolithograph.
2 - Signed by the technician/printer M. Seeger (Stuttgart). 3 - Despite the reference to p. 121, it is placed f.p. 128. |
