Commentary | In the Duke's palace, don Quixote and Sancho mounted on Clavileño, both blindfolded and don Quixote turning the peg on Clavileño's forehead to make the wooden horse "fly".
On the right, a servant ready to simulate its flight with a pair of bellows. In the background, the Duke, Duchess and dueñas observing the scene. Well-known scene, but good illustration; notice Sancho's figure embracing don Quixote, specially remarkable. |
Notes | 1 - B/w illustrations are signed not only by the painter (AW), but also by the photographer/technician; however, his signature has not been identified; it is formed by the initials superimposed (A? C? T? P?) and the reference "ph." (photographer or photographed). |
