Commentary | Don Quixote tries to avenge the robery of Sancho's donkey by the bojiganga, but when the knight gets ready to charge against the actors, these get ready to receive him with stones.
Accurate to Cervantes' text, the actors of Angulo el Malo's company appear disguised to perform Las cortes de la muerte (Cupid, Devil, Emperor, Death, Soldier, Angel and Queen). Excellent representation of light effects, colors and landscape. Remarkable composition (well-resolved and used landscape-format), drawing and coloring. |
Notes | 1 - Carbonero made an oil painting about this episode being 18 years old; the painting was awarded a second class medal at the National Exhibition of Madrid and Carlos Penoso copied and engraved it for La Ilustración Española y Americana (nº 18, 1878). |
