Commentary During Grisóstomo's burial (center of the composition), Marcela appears over a crag; Ambrosio, Grisóstomo's friend, reprimands her.
One diagonal (narration) joins these three main characters: from Marcela, through Ambrosio's face and arm, until Grisóstomo. This diagonal keeps in balanced with two verticals (a gravedigger on the left and don Quixote on the right).
The scene is observed by Sancho Panza and several shepherds.
Illustration of great emotiveness and beauty; Grisóstomo's figure, as a classical young man, is very remarkable.
Marcela appears as an idealized shepherdess.
Drawing and engraving are masterly.
Notes 1 - The basic composition, very accurate to Cervantes' text, already appeared in Dordrecht: Savery, 1657, by Savery.
