	Commentary	"By which means he collected as many of them as he could". Alonso Quijano arrives to his house with a boy carrying some chivalry books on his head and followed by his greyhounds; the housekeeper peeps through the door peepwindow. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period setting, clothes and details; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow.
	Notes	1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898). 2 - "... vemos el primer indicio de la manía de Quijada, en la llegada de éste á su casa con un rapaz cargado de libros de caballería que él mismo no ha podido llevar bajo la capa, la cual denota el bulto de una buena parte de semejante contrabando de su sosiego, que ha debido dar en ojos al ama, cuyo rostro asoma por el ventanillo del artístico portón. Con alguna diferencia, y más expresión de verdad en el dibujo, es el asunto de éste el mismo del apunte del álbum del 63 y el del cuadro del 66" (José Ramón Mélida: “Don José Jiménez Aranda y su "Quijote"", vol.
