Commentary "Should I, by good or ill fortune,...".
Don Quixote, talking directly to the viewer, imagines himself fighting and defeating the giant Caraculiambro (three different scenes imagined among clouds: don Quixote on horseback attacking the giant; don Quixote defeating the giant; the giant prostrate before Dulcinea).
Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period setting, clothes and details; realistic and picturesque. But also good combination reality/imagination.
Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly.
Notes 1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898).
