	Commentary	"One morning before day, in the greatest heat of July, he armed himself cap - a - pie,...". Don Quixote prepares and arms himself for his first sally before dawn. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period setting, clothes and furniture; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow; good impressionist effects.
	Notes	1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898). 2 - "... hallamos al loco armándose de todas sus armas á la débil luz del velón en la madrugada de un caluroso día de Julio" (José Ramón Mélida: “Don José Jiménez Aranda y su "Quijote"", vol.
