Commentary "To have special care of his steed, assuring him that there was not a better,...".
The innkeeper leads Rocinante towards the stable while don Quixote assures him that this is the best horse.
Also in the scene a groom holding don Quixote's shield and one of the party girls with a muleteer.
Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period setting, clothes and details; realistic and picturesque.
Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow.
Notes 1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898).
2 - "... el ventero llevándose al medio muerto rocín, que su amo proclama solemnemente la mejor pieza que comía pan en el mundo..." (José Ramón Mélida: “Don José Jiménez Aranda y su "Quijote"", vol. I TEXTO, p. XXXIV).
