Commentary | "To have special care of his steed, assuring him that there was not a better,...".
The innkeeper leads Rocinante towards the stable while don Quixote assures him that this is the best horse. Also in the scene a groom holding don Quixote's shield and one of the party girls with a muleteer. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period setting, clothes and details; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow. |
Notes | 1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898).
