Commentary | "He laid a table for him at the inn-door".
While don Quixote talks with the innkeeper, a pair of grooms and one of the party girls lay a table and a stool for don Quixote outside the inn. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period setting, clothes and landscape; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow. |
Notes | 1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898). |
