Commentary | "... came up to the inn a sowgelder,".
In the foreground, the sowgelder sounding his reed pipe; a boy accompanies him; remarkable figures. In the background, by the inn door, the group of don Quixote, the innkeeper, the party girls and the muleteers. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period setting, clothes and details; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly. |
Notes | 1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898).
