Commentary | "... he sent up sighs to heaven,...".
Don Quixote sighing on Pedro Alonso's donkey while his neighbour takes him back hom; Rocinante carries don Quixote's arms, armour and broken lance. Notice some countrymen reaping in the background. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes and landscape; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow. |
Notes | 1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1899 in Sevilla and presented at the National Exposition of Madrid (1899).
