	Commentary	"... hold! for I am badly wounded...". Don Quixote, mounted on Pedro Alonso's donkey, orders the housekeeper and niece to stop when they come up to him to embrace him; also in the scene Pedro Alonso, the priest, the barber and Rocinnate carrying don Quixote's arms. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period setting, clothes and details; realistic and picturesque. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly; remarkable use of light and shadow.
	Notes	1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1899 in Sevilla and presented at the National Exposition of Madrid (1899). 2 - "... vemos una admirable composición, acaso la mejor del capítulo, que representa á Don Quijote todavía mal caballero en el borrico, cuando al verse rodeado del ama y de la sobrina, y oir sus voces, grita él crispado y enardecido por su loco arrebato: «Ténganse todos, que vengo mal ferido.» La expresión justa y felicísima del protagonista; las actitudes movidas y oportunas de todos; el vivo efecto de la luz artificial que sale por el postigo de la casa y proyecta las sombras de las figuras, alumbradas á medias, en la fachada del lado opuesto; el contraste de tal luz viva con la tenue de la noche, forman de esta composición, muy estudiada, un hermoso y completo cuadro" (José Ramón Mélida: “Don José Jiménez Aranda y su "Quijote"", vol.
